Dixie, Louisiana

The following excerpt is a brief town description:

"Dixie is on old Hwy 71 north of Shreveport. Glassell Brothers has or had a store here. James B. Pickett 1843 is the only land owner listed in this area prior to 1908." From the Louisiana Post Offices book by John J. Germann -- Dixie was previously known as Rush Point or Rushpoint. The post office at Rush Point was established in 1885, when the population was about 500. The first postmaster was Michael A. Dickson. Rush Point's post office closed in 1895. Dixie had a post office in 1902, and its first postmaster was John C. Dickson.
