Herndon/Raines Cemetery

Herndon/Raines Cemetery (aka: LA Negro Cemetery on Raines Lease). John Frederick Herndon donated the land and was the 1st buried there in 1883, David Raines took it over after his death. Located in NW LA Caddo Parish near the town of Belcher, Louisiana. These people owned considerable lands that eventually became oil fields. Before the oil development they were wealthy and at their deaths large monuments were placed on their graves. These people were mostly mulatto.
